Fire Marshal Shad Gilbert joined the Liberty Township Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic in 2001. He spent the first 20 years of his career responding to emergency calls. In 2020, he made the transition to the fire prevention bureau becoming a fire inspector. In 2024, he was promoted to the rank of Fire Marshal for Liberty Township Fire Department. Fire Marshal Gilbert is proud to be the department’s first fire marshal.
As Fire Marshal, he is responsible for overseeing fire and life safety inspections, fire and arson investigations, and public education programs. He also reviews all plans for all commercial construction projects in the Township, serves as the Public Information Officer, and is the Program Manager for the Community Risk Reduction categories associated with accreditation.
Fire Marshal Gilbert is a certified Fire and Explosion Investigator through the National Association of Fire Investigators, a Fire Investigation Technician through the International Association of Arson Investigators, and a certified Public Information Officer through the Federal Emergency Agency. He also serves as the President of the Central Ohio Fire Prevention Association and is a fire investigator with the Northwest Area Strike Team.
A lifelong resident of Central Ohio, Fire Marshal Gilbert grew up in the City of Upper Arlington and attended Upper Arlington High School. To pursue his dream of becoming a firefighter, he attended Tolles Technical School and earned his 240-hour card. He earned his paramedic certification from Columbus State Community College. If once wasn’t enough, Gilbert returned to college and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Safety Management.
Fire Marshal Gilbert lives in Dublin with his wife and two teenage children. When not spending time with his family, he enjoys biking, fishing, hiking, and kayaking.
